About The Kenai River

fishing calendarWHEN TO FISH:

While we recommend an early start to most trips, we will gladly accommodate clients’ desires for time of launch.
Sockeye fishing is best in the long-lasting twilight of a summer morning before the sun hits the water, but it is possible to catch them all day.

For Silver Salmon it is ESSENTIAL to fish the dawn/dusk hours. With few exceptions, they are notorious for getting “lock jaw” while the sun is on the water. I prefer not to book any Silver trips unless we can hit the morning or evening bite.

Trout fishing is usually best early, they seem to feed more readily in the morning and evening. By getting up early you can present your fly to more fish that haven’t already been hooked that day!

Our seasons are very dynamic. For this reason start times will vary from week to week, especially later in the season. Preferred start times may range from 5:00 a.m. in June to 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. in September/October.
